If your beloved pet is approaching the end of their life, euthanasia is more than likely one of the last things on your mind. It’s understandable, as any owner would want to focus on spending as much time with their pet as possible. Is Humane At-Home Pet Euthanasia Right for Me?

There are various benefits to our humane at-home pet euthanasia services that can make saying goodbye to your pet less stressful and more comfortable. When you contact our office for the first time, our knowledgeable and respectful veterinary staff will break down what our services entail and how they can benefit you.

Some of the reasons you may consider our humane euthanasia for cats and dogs include:

Reducing Stress & Anxiety: Many pets feel anxious about visiting the veterinarian. At Lifting Stars Veterinary Homecare, we believe that your pet’s last moments should be comfortable. By euthanizing your pet in the comfort of your home, you ensure that they’re calm and surrounded by loved ones
Lessening Pain & Discomfort: If your pet has limited mobility or feels pain from movement, our services may be perfect for them. As our team comes out to you, your pet doesn’t have to walk anywhere and they can stay in their favourite spot while they say goodbye to you and your loved ones.
Controlling Your Pace: One of the most significant benefits of our humane euthanasia services is that you can spend as much time with your pet as you want. You don’t have to worry about being rushed, as our veterinary staff will give you privacy and respect during the process.

What to Expect During Your Pet's Appointment

The process will begin with our team visiting your home and performing a wellness examination on your pet. From there, we’ll give you all the information you need to decide if our Strathcona humane at-home pet euthanasia services are right for you and your companion. If you decide that it is, our team will move forward with the procedure.

Depending on your pet’s comfort level, they can either sit in their favourite spot, or as some owners prefer, you can hold your companion. Once your pet is settled, we’ll administer a sedative that puts them to sleep and ensures that they feel no pain or discomfort. Our team will then dispense a medication that humanely helps them pass. We’ll give you as much time and space as you need to say goodbye to your pet. Finally, we’ll assist you with aftercare options, including cremation services and memorial items.

Humane At-Home Pet Euthanasia FAQs

When making the decision to say goodbye to your beloved companion, it’s natural to have many questions about the process. Our compassionate team is here to help you feel confident in your decision. Some common questions about mobile pet euthanasia include:

Do you offer pet memorial services?

Yes. We can and often do provide owners with keepsakes of their pets in the form of fur clippings. Our veterinary practice offers an extensive urn selection, as part of the private cremation fee. For an additional fee, we have custom urn options that place ink paw prints and plaster paw prints on them. We also have additional memorial items available upon request.

How will you assist me with my pet's cremation?

At Lifting Stars Veterinary Homecare, we partner with Until We Meet Again Pet Memorial Center to provide you with comprehensive cremation options, including delivery services. We offer two options for cremation: private or communal cremation. If you select private cremation, we process your pet separately from other pets, and their ashes are available two weeks after cremation. Communal creation is when your pet is cremated with other animals and their ashes are spread in a private country meadow in Fraser Valley.

Is there any preparation required by me before euthanasia?

No. Our staff wants you to focus on comforting your pet. However, it may be beneficial to prepare a designated area for your companion. It’s normal for families to play music, set out candles, or have their pet’s favourite toys out.

Should I feed my pet before euthanasia?

It’s entirely up to you whether you feed your pet before euthanasia. Many pet owners choose to feed their companions their favourite foods.
