Our Approach to Home Pet Euthanasia

We approach home euthanasia with a deep commitment to your pet’s comfort and dignity. We understand the importance of minimizing stress during this sensitive time, which is why we prioritize performing euthanasia in the familiar and calming environment of your home. This setting allows your pet to feel secure and surrounded by their loved ones, fostering a sense of peace during their care, including their final moments. Our compassionate approach enables every step of the process to be handled with sensitivity and respect, honouring your pet’s life and the bond between you in a dignified manner. We strive to provide a gentle transition that relieves their suffering and allows you to say goodbye in a heartfelt and meaningful way.

Our Process

Our veterinarians prioritize compassionate care that respects your pet’s comfort and emotional needs during consultations and home euthanasia. We aim to support you and your pet with empathy and dignity throughout every stage of this difficult decision, ensuring they are honoured in a way that reflects their significance in your life. A Lifting Stars Veterinary Homecare Veterinarian will visit your home, discuss your pet’s health concerns, and perform a physical examination as needed, then discuss the findings with you. If there are options for palliative care, they will outline the next steps for treatment.

If you decide that humane euthanasia is the correct course of action, your veterinarian will explain the process and answer any questions that you may have. Our goal is for the procedure to be as calm and relaxed as possible, both for you and for your beloved pet. After euthanasia, we take your pet and arrange aftercare options, including cremation services and memorial items.

Cremation

We partner with Until We Meet Again Pet Memorial Center in Surrey to provide cremation services after euthanasia. We also provide options for delivery services. There are two options for cremation: private or communal cremation. With private cremation, your pet is cremated separately from other animals, and the ashes are available in approximately two weeks. With communal cremation, your pet is cremated with other animals, and the ashes are spread in a private country meadow in the Fraser Valley.

Keepsake Options

As part of our in-home euthanasia service, we offer keepsake options to help your pet always remain a cherished part of your life. Our goal is to support you in grieving and celebrating your pet’s life. Our keepsake options include:

  • Fur Clipping: A free keepsake fur clipping is included upon request.
  • Standard Urns: Included with the private cremation fee; choose one of seven standard urn options.
  • Custom Urns: For an additional fee, you can explore custom urn options tailored to your preferences.
  • Unique Paw Prints: Request an ink, plaster, or ceramic paw print as a cherished keepsake.
  • Additional Memorial Items: We offer many other memorial items available upon request to commemorate your pet’s memory.
