Canine and Feline Pain Scales:
Many signs of pain are non-specific and can be difficult for pet owners to evaluate due to their gradual onset or perception that it is “just old age”. Please refer to these Acute Pain Scales provided by Colorado State University Veterinary Medical Center as part of the evaluation of your pet’s pain level. Other considerations that may cause some of these signs include anxiety, poor general health and systemic diseases. If you are concerned your pet may be in pain or have other health concerns, please discuss the results with your veterinarian or Dr. Berkshire.
There is never a good day to say goodbye, even when we know it is the right thing to do. Ohio State University has prepared an article titled, “How Do I Know When It is Time?” to help guide pet owners in making this difficult decision.
